Rivals Claim Ex-Yankees’ Contract With Blue Jays Is ‘Best’ Of Offseason

One former member of the New York Yankees landed with one of the club’s rivals in free agency.

Veteran utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa spent the last two seasons with the Yankees but left the club in free agency as he signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Kiner-Falefa was impressive with New York and his deal with Toronto was not for as much as some expected he could get. Some are even claiming that his deal with Toronto was the best deal of the offseason, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.

“Multiple rival agents and executives have noted that Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s contract with the Toronto Blue Jays – two years, $15 million – is perhaps the best for a player this offseason,” Murray said. “Kiner-Falefa’s salary in 2024 is $7.5 million, which is only $500,000 less than Tim Anderson, Gio Urshela, and Amed Rosario’s salaries this season combined.”

Kiner-Falefa was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and eventually made his big league debut with the club in 2018. He spent the first four seasons of his career with Texas before joining the Yankees ahead of the 2022 season.

He is just 28 years old and saw time at second base, shortstop, third base, left field, center field, and right field last season as a member of the Yankees. He can help out all across the diamond and has one Gold Glove Award under his belt.

New York certainly will be seeing a lot of Kiner-Falefa as a member of the Blue Jays over the next few years.
