Lakers News: LA Signs Veteran Point Guard To Two-Deal

The Lakers add to their backcourt depth.

Your Los Angeles Lakers have just added another piece to their backcourt depth.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are signing free agent point guard Skylar Mays to a two-way deal.

Mays is a four-year veteran and last played for the Portland Trail Blazers just five days ago.

As a member of the Blazers, he’s already played the Lakers twice, and in those two games, he played some of his best ball of the season. He averaged 15 points, ten assists, 4.5 rebounds, and one steal while shooting 48% from the field.

Overall, he averaged 4.9 points while shooting 44.3%, 1.3 rebounds, and two assists in the season. Mays came into the league drafted in the second round with the 50th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks, where he spent his first two seasons. After that, he bounced around from the NBA G League and back to the NBA this season.

He initially signed a 10-day contract with the Blazers in March 2023. Mays signed a two-way deal in early October, then a standard contract with Portland, and then waived by the team on January 6th.

He is now in Los Angeles, and we cannot wait to see what he can do with the Purple and Gold. He’ll join small forward Dylan Windler, who also just signed on with the Lakers last week, and center Colin Castleton.
