Yankees Star Viewed As Long-Term Extension Candidate

The New York Yankees’ pursuit of World Series No. 28 will come down to many things as the season gets underway.

With the additions made this offseason, the possibility of winning that title was made a bit easier.

New York Yankees Star Juan Soto Viewed As Candidate for Long-Term Extension - Sports Illustrated NY Yankees News, Analysis and More

In an offseason highlighted by acquiring Juan Soto, the Yankees feel confident heading into spring training after one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory.

While Soto has yet to play a game for New York, extending him is on the front office’s mind. He’s a need for multiple reasons. A 25-year-old who’s already a three-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger and World Series champion is someone that the Yankees keep around for the next decade or so.

Soto was listed as one of the top options to get a long-term extension from their club by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

After the haul they moved for him, the Yankee had to have some level of confidence to extend him.

If one thing is true about Soto’s extension, agent Scott Boras won’t be taking any sort of discount. Soto’s talent can land a contract of more than $500 million and Boras will seek every dollar of that.

This is the same agent that doesn’t have a problem with clients Cody Bellinger, Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell and Matt Chapman still being on the market with Spring Training starting this week.

There’s a negative chance that Boras takes any sort of discount when it comes to arguably the best hitter in baseball.

Soto’s arrival allows the Yankees to pair Aaron Judge with another star bat. Now it’s time for the front office to take every opportunity to show Soto that New York is where he should spend the rest of his career.
