A Taylor Swift “rookie card” has sold for a record price at an auction.
Taylor Swift has been one of the most popular and top-selling music stars for almost two decades now. She has also been a major talking point in the sporting for almost a year now because of her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce.
Swift’s rising popularity in the sporting world was also good news for the lucky seller of a Swift rookie card that was made by the Topps trading card and collectibles company.
According to Cllct.com, a 2011 Topps American Pie Taylor Swift rookie card sold over the weekend for the massive price tag of $6,255:
“Swift’s de facto rookie card is already shockingly rare. PSA has graded less than 200 of the base versions and just 20 have received PSA 10 designations.
This example, a little-known parallel numbered to /76, is one of just three PSA 9s with none higher. This sale represents the highest price paid for the card, in any grade or variation, ever.”
This rookie card features Swift and Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. For those unaware, West infamously came on stage and interrupted Swift after she was given the award for Best Female Video on her hit song “You Belong with Me.”
West took the microphone and told Swift that he would “let her finish” her speech, but he stated that Beyoncé Knowles “had one of the best videos of all time” (he was speaking about her “Single Ladies” hit song).
Like any rare collectible, this Taylor Swift rookie card should only go up in value over time. Plenty of sports fans are going to want that exact card if her and Kelce end up staying together, too.
Taylor Swift Made The Kansas City Chiefs Even More Popular
The Chiefs have emerge as one of America’s most beloved sports teams during their dynastic run, but Taylor Swift single-handedly brought more global popularity and attention to the AFC West club.
Swift attended most of the Chiefs’ games during the 2023 season, including all of their playoff games and the Super Bowl 58 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Countless “Swifties” began watching the Chiefs last season and became giant fans of Kelce, who helped KC to a second straight Super Bowl victory in 2023.
