The Celtics may be without two big men for the start of their road trip on Tuesday night against the Warriors. Boston released their latest injury report on Monday afternoon ahead of their tilt against Golden State and listed Kristaps Porzingis as questionable for the matchup while also declaring Luke Kornet out.
Porzingis had just returned to the floor on Sunday after sitting out Friday’s contest with left calf soreness. However, the team has listed him with a left calf injury management designation for his injury, a sign he may not be playing both halves of the Boston back-to-back that concludes Wednesday night in Sacramento. Porzingis spoke optimistically about the injury on Sunday which also caused him to miss four games earlier this month.
“To be honest, it was just a cautionary thing,” Porzingis said of sitting out Friday. “Not playing a back-to-back. But it felt good. Felt good enough that I could have played. It’s just I think the medical staff is taking a more cautious approach, especially the first couple weeks coming back from the calf.”
Porzingis finished with 29 minutes played against the Magic on Sunday, putting up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 114-97 victory. While the 7-foot-3 center is adamant about wanting to play as much as possible, he plans to defer to the Celtics training staff on their preferences.
“They know my stance: I want to play in every game they allow me,” Porzingis said. “But of course, they want to be smart with me and my health. Make sure I’m here for the long picture.”
Kornet remains out with an adductor strain for the third straight game. However, he could be cleared to return during Boston’s four-game road trip.
The Celtics and Warriors will tip off at 10 p.m. ET at Chase Center on Tuesday night.
