The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees both homed Josh Donaldson in 2023. A calf injury kept Donaldson out of the Yankees lineup for several months last year, but he eventually was placed on waivers and released. Milwaukee signed him with the hopes of adding some thump into their lineup. The bringer of rain ended up playing a role in the Crew capturing the National League Central title and he made the playoff roster.
At 38 years old Josh Donaldson is currently a free agent. He has gone on the record saying that he wants to play one more season, but that the circumstances would have to be right. While he remains unsigned and without any reported interest from MLB Insiders he has found himself stealing the headlines in the latest Yankees off-season rumors.
Former Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Josh Donaldson is stealing the headlines in the New York Yankees latest off-season rumors.
Earlier this week Will Sammon reported that the New York Yankees were one of two teams interested in free agent Gio Urshela. Urshela and Josh Donaldson are linked together from a blockbuster trade between the Yankees and Minnesota Twins that was executed in the spring of 2022. Along with a few other players that deal sent Urshela to the Twins and Donaldson to the Bronx.
Following that trade in 2022 Yankees executive Brian Cashman told the media that he “appreciated what Gio had done, but he’s not Josh Donaldson”.

This quote from Cashman has resurfaced with the news of the Yankees being linked to current free agent Gio Urshela. It’s hard to imagine a reunion between the two given the words exchanged after their previous breakup, but only time will tell for sure.
