After making another trade, Dan Morgan went defense in round three at Pick No. 72.
The Carolina Panthers selected linebacker Trevin Wallace out of Kentucky.
To select Wallace, Carolina traded the No. 65 pick and in return landed pick Nos. 72 and 157.
What the Panthers are getting in LB Trevin Wallace
Wallace is viewed by draft analysts as a top-ranked athlete. He was the third off-the-ball linebacker drafted thus far. He is slotted to be a Shaq Thompson success, similar to when Thomas was drafted in 2015 to replace Thomas Davis.
He is capable of covering tight ends and running backs and should impact all four downs. It helps that he will be taking tutelage from Thompson because he is young and could use a redshirt year before he’s ready to be featured on defense.
It is a solid pick by the Panthers. However, it isn’t necessarily one to write home about.
