New York has a large hole in the starting rotation right now with 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole set to miss at least one or two months due to an elbow injury.

The Yankees were heavily linked to fellow superstar Blake Snell as a possible option to help fix the rotation but he recently signed with the San Francisco Giants.

New York has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for a handful of other players recently with 2023 All-Star Michael Lorenzen being one of the most talked about options.

Lorenzen would’ve made a lot of sense because he could’ve helped the middle of the rotation while not breaking the bank, but the Yankees reportedly missed out on him as the Texas Rangers reportedly landed him, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

“Free-agent right-hander Michael Lorenzen in agreement with Rangers on one-year, $4.5M contract, pending physical, source tells The Athletic,” Rosenthal said. “Deal includes $2.5M in incentives, maxes out at $7M.”

New York was linked to Lorenzen and seemingly had interest in him, but was unable to get a deal done. There are still other options out there who could help New York and the club even reportedly has picked up talks with former Yankee Jordan Montgomery.

Montgomery would make a lot of sense for the Yankees as well and would be a major lift for the rotation but he likely will be too expensive for the club due to the massive tax bill the club would face.

Another intriguing option out there who could help is former New York Mets All-Star Noah Syndergaard but it’s unclear what the Yankees’ next move will be.
