Red Sox Linked To Rising Star To Help Fix Starting Rotation

Boston still is being mentioned as a landing spot for one of the top free agent starters

The Boston Red Sox still could end up surprising some people this offseason.

Rumored Red Sox Trade Target Reportedly Not Being Moved Despite Speculation - Sports Illustrated Inside The Red Sox

Boston has been in and out of rumors all offseason. The Red Sox have been linked to seemingly everyone in some way but haven’t been able to get anything major done outside of signing Lucas Giolito and trading for Tyler O’Neill.

The Red Sox desperately need to improve the starting rotation, but it has been rumored that the club isn’t willing to pay the price needed to get a deal done with one of the top hurlers remaining in free agency.

The top two free-agent hurlers remaining are Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell. Both are looking for big deals and it’s unclear what Boston will do.

Although this is the case, the Red Sox still are being linked to Montgomery as a possible option, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

“I do think that the (Texas Rangers) are the most likely team for Jordan Montgomery still,” Heyman said. “We’ve been saying that for weeks that if they can work out that TV arrangement, Montgomery back with the Rangers makes the most sense. He helped them win the World Series last year. The Cubs are the other team I’ve heard with Montgomery…

“Other teams in on Montgomery are the (Los Angeles Angels), Red Sox, and (Philadelphia Phillies).”

Red Sox fans certainly have made their opinions known on the club’s lack of spending this offseason but the narrative could completely shift if the club could land someone like Montgomery.

The big lefty has been extremely steady over the last few seasons and is a rising star. He helped lead the Rangers to the World Series last season and was exceptional in the postseason.

He certainly is going to get a big deal and it would make sense for the Red Sox to invest.
